Four hours in my lai Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Four hours in my lai - Essay Example This is on the grounds that the U.S military taking shelter in one of the Vietnamese towns was sitting tight for an experience that would permit them to utilize their trainings and security system for the war. Nonetheless, this open door didn't come effectively accordingly, they chose to attempt the assault towards Vietnamese gatherings. My Lai Massacre occurred in the first part of the day of March 16, 1968 which was one of the bloodiest and horrendous mass killings in history(Michael and Kevin,102). This Massacre was described by the executing binge done in the villages in South Vietnam by the U.S. military troupes by the utilization of bombs and impacting that slaughtered people, yet additionally honest kids and even creatures (Bilton and Sim, 1992). The slaughter loss of life arrived at roughly 500 or more individuals. In spite of the fact that the slaughter called for consideration, the troopers engaged with the slaughter, 26 of them to be accurate, one of whom is Lt. William Ca lley has figured out how to decrease the buzz from the momentous date. Be that as it may, throughout the fall of the year 1969, media had the option to open the eyes of the world and carry them to the genuine catastrophe and exhibit of maltreatment of intensity by the U.S. military in the My Lai slaughter that prompted the detainment of those included. The Cleveland Plain Dealer led in breaking the story to the open where a military picture taker from Cleveland, Ronald Haeberle has uncovered photos of the slaughter and allowed a paper firm a select meeting of himself . This gave the open an impartial perspective on what truly occurred in the My Lai Massacre. The media has assumed a major job in giving the world an away from of the Vietnam slaughter. Due to media, I emphatically accept that the My Lai Massacre liberated itself from the biased musings of the world being a slaughter that had to do with the political and financial uprising in Vietnam around then against socialism and th eir pioneers (Bilton and Sim, 1992). Rather, this war additionally featured on the American military whose unlawful order required some reevaluating and how the American military’s activities emphatically formed Vietnamese history and culture today. The Massacre was in fact a major occasion in Vietnamese history as well as is as yet proceeding to help individuals to remember the massacre’s leftovers as a result of its short and long haul impacts. A portion of the momentary impacts of the war would incorporate the stricter rules and capabilities set for military volunteers who wish to serve in authority troops. This was because of absence of top to bottom information on settling on choices on basic issues that prompted the My Lai slaughter. Aside from which, there was likewise a drop in the quantity of candidates who might need to prepare for military help through school participation or country administration on the grounds that the Vietnam war drew a terrible light on the expectations of creating very much prepared and experienced profession warriors who might be placed in the cutting edges. Then again, a portion of the drawn out impacts of the My Lai Massacre would be the adjustment in the way of life of military preparing. As the slaughter brought up the issues with the old military culture wherein the request of mandatory submission is required and the convention of â€Å"command responsibility† to the least positions is carefully followed, today, the military order scene definitely changed (Bilton and Sim, 19

Musical Texture Free Essay Example, 750 words

Textures exist in a piece of music are defined as homophonic, monophonic, or polyphonic. Listening to music is more enjoyable when theres more going on than just one sound texture, but at the same time moments in a music that are homophonic can be very rich and lead-in to the next section which begins to separate into different strands of music. All of the threads come together to weave into this beautiful tapestry which can just burst in the mind. One thing to the Hallelujah Chorus is always an uplifting experience which is partially due to the homophonic and polyphonic textures that are balanced against one another. In addition, when the canon begins suddenly it is like heaven is opening up. This is due to the way in which these textures weave together and create a mental picture for the listener. The Hallelujah Chorus can be experienced in different ways depending upon how the director chooses to frame the music and this will lead to various textures. In listening to the â€Å"Hallelujah Chorus† from YouTube, the texture seems very different than what is in the textbook. We will write a custom essay sample on Musical Texture or any topic specifically for you Only $17.96 $11.86/pageorder now In the very beginning of the work the singers are singing in a homophonic way, During these lyrics â€Å"for Lord God omnipotent reigneth† it is done in strictly, monophonic texture the first time it is sung. This gives the strength and emphasizes this particular section. The texture in the version from within the textbook lists this as monophonic. The second time that this sung, it is very clearly done in monophonic texture which is visible on the score as much as heard in the music. The third time it is sung in the textbook, it is clearly in polyphonic as it is sung in contrast with the lyric â€Å"Hallelujah†. This is the same in the version on YouTube which occurs in a long section that almost sounds similar to canon. The YouTube version is the same as the text for â€Å"The Kingdom of this world is become. The lyrics â€Å"King of Kings and Lord of Lords† is repeatedly monophonic until it begins to turn into a polyphonic s ection that includes other lyrics as well, which is similar to the textbook version. The monophonic portions of the score appear on one line, while the homophonic portions appear separated into multiple lines on the monophonic YouTube score. The polyphonic lines also appear as multiple lines on the score. When there is only one strand of music there is only one line of scored music. In this example, both methods are used in order to show the use of different instrumentation. In other words, when the chorus is in polyphonic mode, they get one line, but when multiple instruments are used to create this sound they are on different lines. As well, when different sections of the chorus break into various lyrics and create polyphonic sound, they each get a staff line in the score. Listening to the music has a high benefit to understanding the texture. Although seeing the score can help a viewer understand where the music is going and where it is then, textures really something that can only be experienced from listening. Listening to the music creates an exploration of how the tones work together which cannot be experienced by looking at score. A mathematical understanding can be experienced by looking at the score, but not an understanding of the true experience. Bach’s â€Å"Contrapunctus 9† is a fugue, which means that polyphonic texture occurs as a variety of different lines of music come together to create the overall texture. The themes are repeated at different ways in order to create this weave of music. Beethovens Fifth Symphony, in the first few bars, is done in monophonic as notes are played in unison at the exact same time. In the Bach visual, it is clear that things are running op. cit. of one another where in the Beethoven visual one can clearly see how they weave together. Homophonic music is interwoven with homophonic textures in Mussorgsky’s â€Å"Promenade†. From a visual standpoint it is very easy to see the textures moving against and with one another. Debussy’s â€Å"Syrinx† is developed for a solo flute which means that it could only be monophonic. There is only one instrument which plays one note at a time, creating a driving melody throughout the entire piece. The piece â€Å"Ave Maria† done as a guitar solo has several strands of music operating at the same time under a melody which is homophonic. Bach’s Goldberg Variations, Variation 6 is also polyphonic as the music has a number of strands that are all playing differently in comparison to one another. The different forms of textures their experience through watching them as well as listening creates a better understanding of how music can work together to create a single piece. In the example of the â€Å"Hallelujah Chorus†, it was clear that the different voices as well as the different instruments created something that was woven together with the purpose of portraying exultation. In listening to some of the other pieces, the homophonic versions were just as interesting as Bachs fugue which is a good example of polyphonic music.

Opposing Gun Control with the Right to Bear Arms - 583 Words

The United States Patriot Militia in 1780 was the day of the battle that was the turning point of the Revolutionary War. These militiamen were normal arms-bearing citizens that gave the forward momentum of our country’s development, and without these citizens that stood up for our country, our life may not be as it is today. The topic of gun control has been controversial for years about how it causes more violence, more murders, homicides, etc. The main thing that is being fought about is whether or not gun regulations should be tightened. It is a big controversy whether or not if the law is made more strict then murders and other violence related to firearms are going to be reduced. tightening gun regulations will affect none of these things. The purpose of the Second Amendment is to give people the right to keep and bear arms which is why this amendment is so important. The Second Amendment states â€Å"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed† . This is saying that the people have the right to bear arms. People try to point out that it talks about militia and try to say, †well that’s the National Guard†, but it’s not. Every citizen that is able to yield a firearm is considered to be in the reserve militia (LaCourse). Therefore taking the right to bear arms away from citizens is depriving them of the ability to do their duty as a citizen. Kenaf Free Essays

Kenaf composites experience a number of damage modes under dynamic compression loading. Therefore, in order to understand the overall behavior of the Kenaf composite, it is necessary to identify the different types of impact damage that occurred. Damage of composites such as cracking constituents usually occur and are not totally visible. We will write a custom essay sample on Kenaf or any similar topic only for you Order Now To understand it, examination and analysis of specimens are needed. Microscope observation was used to observe the morphology of fractures of tested samples. This technique has been largely considered in various investigations of composites. The observed images of the fractured specimens under dynamic compressive test are shown in figure 9. On the top surface, it can be seen that the impact damage spreads throughout the specimen. These damage modes include degradation of the fiber/matrix bond strength and eventual debonding, matrix cracks, and fiber splitting, resulting in overall stiffness and strength degradation of the composite. This failure of the matrix material can originate from various loading conditions. In all cases, cracks initiate or propagate within the matrix or at the interface between fiber and matrix, if the respective loading condition of normal stresses or shear stresses exceeds the local strength of the matrix or interface, respectively. While bulk of the failure involves cracking of matrix, or interface debonding, fiber splitting may occur especially if fiber itself is weak in transverse direction, and the unidirectional composite is highly aligned in transverse direction. Referring to Fig. 7, longitudinal ply splitting or matrix fractures parallel to the fibre direction occurs and extends from the top and to the bottom surfaces. So, at the moment of impact, stress concentration is generated at the contact point where the matrix cracks and fiber bundles split. On the one hand, the stress wave propagates along the fiber direction, the fiber bundles act as the main load-bearing object, and fewer cracks can be seen along the longitudinal direction. Moreover, Figs. 9 shows a higher extent of fiber splitting and bending, which confirmed lower fiber-matrix adhesion, also indicates fibers were carrying higher load share than matrix (Ku et al. 2011).Based on the results of the experimental investigation, bonding at the fiber-matrix interface is identified as the dominant compressive failure mechanism in Kenaf composites which controlling the mechanical performance. Previous study have also shown that debonding of the fiber/matrix interface has caused substantial degradation in the transverse response of a composite, resulting in an early degradation in the stress-strain curve [33]. Besides, multiaxial tests conducted by Lissenden, et al. [34] on SiCTi tubular specimens revealed that fiber/matrix interfacial debonding plays an important role in the axial shear response. The mechanical properties of natural fibre reinforced composites highly depend on the interface adhesion property between the fibres and the polymer matrix as have been reported by many researchers [5–8] How to cite Kenaf, Papers

The play is called Othello and it is a tragedy Essay Example For Students

The play is called Othello and it is a tragedy Essay The play is called Othello and it is a tragedy. In this play the main character is tricked into killing his wife for another mans gain. I will answer the question Is Othello a noble hero or an easily tricked fool. This play is really picking up on the fact that many people before and during Shakespeares time believed that moors were more prone to jealously than white people. I believe that Shakespeare got his main ideas about the novel Othello from The story of Disdemona of Venice and The Moorish Captain which was published in 1566 and has all the basic principles of the story Othello. We will write a custom essay on The play is called Othello and it is a tragedy specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now Othello is one of Shakespeares more complicated characters, at the start of the play everyone cannot speak well of him enough because he lets the noble side of his personality rule his actions and is kind and everyone likes him, however Iago plays with his emotions and plants false suspicions, which in fact Iago is helping to create, by giving subtle hints about a romance between Cassio and Desdemona, I think this because in Act III Scene III, when Cassio stops speaking to Desdemona and leaves as quickly as possible because he feels shame by his actions, but Iago seeing a chance to further his plan, claims it could be another reason. Othello asks Iago if that is Cassio leaving to which he replies Cassio my lord? No, sure, I cannot think it. That he would sneak away so guilty-like, seeing you coming. Another person who is made to look the fool is Roderigo who unwittingly helps Iago in his plans because he thinks he is doing it to help him get Desdemona back whom he lost to Othello but he is doing it for his own personal gain. Also Cassio has been a fool because he is one of the main people who trusts Iago even though he is the one who got him demoted, and believes everything he says and constantly calls him honest Iago. Most people in the play are fools because they all believe Iago is honest and true. If I were to compare Othello to another one of Shakespeares characters like Macbeth, the differences wouldnt be that great compared to the similarities. Both Othello and Macbeth killed someone, even though they were pushed into it and the hints were subtle or straight out. Othello killed Desdemona because of all the suspicions created by Iago and Macbeth killed King Duncan because his wife forced him to, also both murders happened at night night was the sign of evil while the victims were in bed, however when Macbeth killed King Duncan storms were happening to signify an evil deed and nothing like this happened in Othello. Both were overcome with jealousy and suspicion. Othello was jealous because apparently Cassio was committing adultery with his wife and Macbeth was jealous because King Duncan had more power than him. They were both noble fighters and commanded their own army; also everyone spoke highly of them. Although Othello was black he still got the same respect as Macbeth did as a white person and I think what Shakespeare was picking up on in the first few scenes was the fact that the colour of someones skin is not important because its whats underneath that counts but then he reverts back to what the view of black people was in those times, that they were apparently very prone to jealousy. The Elizabethan stages contained no scenery, which meant the burden of expounding the action rested firmly on the dramatists and actors combined powers to create a sense of place and atmosphere, through language. We should not be blind to the wide variety of expression that the play uses, ranging from the formal and magnificent utterances of the hero himself, to a more flexible language not unlike the speech used everyday. The variations in style fulfil a dramatic purpose, and we should see them as part of the wider formal structure of the play. .u938f13bcc59836b131dfb0cbfc30d127 , .u938f13bcc59836b131dfb0cbfc30d127 .postImageUrl , .u938f13bcc59836b131dfb0cbfc30d127 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u938f13bcc59836b131dfb0cbfc30d127 , .u938f13bcc59836b131dfb0cbfc30d127:hover , .u938f13bcc59836b131dfb0cbfc30d127:visited , .u938f13bcc59836b131dfb0cbfc30d127:active { border:0!important; } .u938f13bcc59836b131dfb0cbfc30d127 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u938f13bcc59836b131dfb0cbfc30d127 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u938f13bcc59836b131dfb0cbfc30d127:active , .u938f13bcc59836b131dfb0cbfc30d127:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u938f13bcc59836b131dfb0cbfc30d127 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u938f13bcc59836b131dfb0cbfc30d127 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u938f13bcc59836b131dfb0cbfc30d127 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u938f13bcc59836b131dfb0cbfc30d127 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u938f13bcc59836b131dfb0cbfc30d127:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u938f13bcc59836b131dfb0cbfc30d127 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u938f13bcc59836b131dfb0cbfc30d127 .u938f13bcc59836b131dfb0cbfc30d127-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u938f13bcc59836b131dfb0cbfc30d127:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The Crucible - What does the play have to offer an audience in Perth, Western Australia in 1996 EssayOthellos speech differs from the time near the start of the play when he defends his marriage to the time he contemplates the adultery of Desdemona and Cassio Lie with her, lie on her? à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å"We say lie on her, when they belie her-lie with her, zounds, thats fulsome! The Elizabethan stages contained none or very little scenery, which meant that creating a scene in the audiences mind and creating an atmosphere, which meant that the lines the characters speak has to be perfect for the moments in which they are uttered. Othellos speeches differ from the start of the play to the end of the play. At the start his speeches are compelling and commanding when he defends his marriage and at the end his speeches are spiteful and out to hurt people, he also repeats words to let them sink in. When he contemplates the adultery of Desdemona and Cassio he says, Lie with her, lie on her? à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å"We say lie on her, when they belie her-lie with her, zounds, thats fulsome! These quotes show the mental turmoil that Othello is going through thanks to Iago. Othello is often viewed as a hero because of his significant position at the helm of the Venetian army and the fact that all the most important people value his opinion over many people who are considered more important than him, which is the significance of his power. Many people who watched the play when it was showing at the theatre would probably have expected the black person to be a servant or something low like that and I think it would have been quite a shock to see someone they considered to be on a lower rung of the social ladder being asked for his opinions on all these important matters by senators and other important people. Through the course of the play, you get to hear many different opinions of Othello like But he, as loving his own pride and purpose, evades them with a bombastic circumstance, horribly stuffd with epithets of war and Even now, now, very now, an old black ram, Is topping your white ewe. The things Othello says before he has been led down the path of jealousy are more noble and are better presented because when he is getting jealous all of his speeches are all about the same thing Desdemona and Cassio and affairs and they all have the same structure of insults and it would have been better if they had had more meaning to them or better language. There are many moral and philosophical aspects of the play. Othello was written in 1604 and 400 years on the plays topicality resounds. We still live in a society all too familiar with many of the plays themes Prejudice Stereotypes Jealousy Clashes of different cultures Racism Tarnished reputations and disgraced public figures Rifts between parents and children If we were to look at racism today, a recent survey showed that four out of ten whites do not want a black neighbour and another survey showed that 39% of people black and white asked would prefer to live in an area where only people of the same ethnic background lived. An Internet search on google for jealous husband produced around 379,000 results. The first three were A suspected car bomb in Austria turned out to be a tracking device installed by a jealous husband Jealous husband blows up kindergarten, meaning to punish wife A jealous husband kills his rival with a sawn-off shotgun The last two are particularly related to Othello because he is a jealous husband and kills her to punish her and he tries to kill Cassio because he thinks he is a rival for Desdemona. .uf0399b1e0b8db58398c6e8fac0b68aa6 , .uf0399b1e0b8db58398c6e8fac0b68aa6 .postImageUrl , .uf0399b1e0b8db58398c6e8fac0b68aa6 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uf0399b1e0b8db58398c6e8fac0b68aa6 , .uf0399b1e0b8db58398c6e8fac0b68aa6:hover , .uf0399b1e0b8db58398c6e8fac0b68aa6:visited , .uf0399b1e0b8db58398c6e8fac0b68aa6:active { border:0!important; } .uf0399b1e0b8db58398c6e8fac0b68aa6 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uf0399b1e0b8db58398c6e8fac0b68aa6 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uf0399b1e0b8db58398c6e8fac0b68aa6:active , .uf0399b1e0b8db58398c6e8fac0b68aa6:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uf0399b1e0b8db58398c6e8fac0b68aa6 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uf0399b1e0b8db58398c6e8fac0b68aa6 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uf0399b1e0b8db58398c6e8fac0b68aa6 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uf0399b1e0b8db58398c6e8fac0b68aa6 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uf0399b1e0b8db58398c6e8fac0b68aa6:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uf0399b1e0b8db58398c6e8fac0b68aa6 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uf0399b1e0b8db58398c6e8fac0b68aa6 .uf0399b1e0b8db58398c6e8fac0b68aa6-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uf0399b1e0b8db58398c6e8fac0b68aa6:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The play is set in the Birling's house; as it is a safe place where life is secure and sheltered EssayThe human nature of this play is all about jealousy and it is telling you to make sure, that before you get angry and overcome with emotion, make sure you have thought everything through and have looked at all the facts and other peoples opinions, make sure you know whose opinions you can trust. It is showing how irrational jealousy can make you be when you are in love and dont have any facts to back it up and have to go on instincts. This play refers to good and evil as white being good and black being bad. In most of Shakespeares plays, most of the bad things always happen at night because they associated night with evil. They still have good and evil nowadays but it is not in the form of black and white it is now in your religion and country. If you were a Slovakian Christian you are most likely to not be suspected for anything like terrorism, however if you were a Muslim from Iraq, in countries like America and England any suspicious behaviour and the police would search you. This is unfair, just because a group of people from one country have done something bad, it does not mean we should condemn the rest of the country. I think Othello is an easily tricked fool because although Iagos plan was a very good one and well executed, if Othello was clever enough to become commander of an entire army he should have seen through all the lies, also if he really knew and loved Desdemona then he would have believed her when she said she was not guilty of adultery with Cassio. The fact it came with someone he knew and cared for did not help at all, and inevitably having this trust made it easier for Othello to believe Iagos lies.
